Zenflex Uniflex Expansion Joints

The System

The Zenflex System uses a butyl rubber membrane, bonded to the substrate with Zenflex Epoxy Adhesive to provide an efficient and permanent joint that is easily installed. The System will accommodate a variety of conditions from those experienced on an asphalt-covered traffic-free roof, to bridge decks with sheet membrane, spray on coating or asphalt waterproofing, also it can be used with two layer mastic asphalt or brick paving systems.

The Zenflex Membrane is prepared from specially developed butyl rubber compound that is tough, weatherproof, flexible and can withstand up to 300% elongation.

The Zenflex Epoxy Adhesive has been designed specifically for bonding Zenflex to concrete, asphalt, steel and other surfaces to make the system so effective.

Site work

Concrete surfaces must be finished to U3 standard, abraded to remove laitance and providing good bonding substrate. The concrete shoulders must be smooth and level with each other across the expansion gap. If the concrete surface is not sound, making well should be done with Polymer modified concrete.

The concrete surface should be primed with Zenflex adhesive diluted to make a primer. The area of mastic asphalt to which the Zenflex membrane is to be bonded must be well sand rubbed when laying to remove excess bitumen fat, and any nibs removed to give a clean flat surface free from surplus sand and other materials. The surface should be smooth and level across the joint.

System Components

The system comprises a tough, impermeable waterproofing membrane and a fully compatible, durable slip resistant surface finish available in a range of decorative colours.

Components

The Zenflex Membrane is normally supplied in 20 metre rolls of any required width up to 1300mm, adhesive, closed cell foam and steel plates if required are all part of the different systems we can provide.

Performance

The Zenflex System is chemically inert and completely impervious to water and water vapour. In buried joints the membrane is completely protected by the wearing surface. Zenflex Membrane will not rock or crack in service and the combination of a simple design and proven components makes the system naturally long-lasting and well up to the requirements of modern building and civil engineering practice.

Applications

The Zenflex system is adaptable and the following illustrations show how it is used and the most frequently specified.

Zenflex Design Services

The Zenflex system is versatile and simple, internal and external corners can be easily accommodated and made on site, also termination at the ends of the joints can be formed by returning up the vertical from the horizontal, angle flashings are treated in a similar fashion at columns, walls and kerbs giving continuity of the waterproofing seal.

However, our Technical Department will be pleased to assist in detail design in order to suit site requirements.
